Case Study – Ultrasonic Flight Cases

Monthly growth quadruples with the help of Evolve BD

When Covid hit, the father and son team behind Cleethorpes-based Ultrasonic Flight Cases took the time to focus on how they could move their business forward. The Taylor family took over the 62-year-old company in 2015 but hadn’t yet taken advantage of social media to reach new customers. The company manufactures and supplies flight cases for the entertainment industry. The cases for instruments, speakers, and catering equipment, among many others, are delivered within the UK and then travel around the world. After securing a grant to employ someone to look after their social media, they contacted Karen at Evolve BD for advice and training.

Initial meeting

“The first meeting with Karen was very positive in that, finally, we’d found somebody we could work with,” said Oliver.

“Karen was friendly and approachable and willing to share the knowledge without it being a pay-per-information thing. She has always been upfront and approachable, and if you ever had any questions, you just drop her an e-mail, and she’ll always help.”

Activity

Karen worked with Ultrasonics Flight Cases in hour-long sessions over Teams. “When we started working with Karen, we were looking for someone who could lay the groundwork because we didn’t know what we were doing with social media. We didn’t have the ideas or know what we needed to do or have time to sit and figure it out.

Ultrasonic Flight Cases employed someone to look after its social media. “Karen has been able to work with our colleague and me (Oliver) to come up with the right marketing scheme for our business, which is in a very niche market. How to market a flight case might be a difficult question, but Karen has been able to come up with the best way to do that.

Karen began by working with Ultrasonic Flight Cases in hour-long sessions over Teams.

“She gave us ideas of what to do, how to try and position the brand and the products we were selling,” said Oliver. “She said to start off small, and we used Facebook in the beginning. Then we could get involved in other platforms when we progressed further.” Today Ultrasonic Flight Cases also uses LinkedIn, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter) as well as Facebook.

Now Ultrasonic Flight Cases has its social media up and running, Karen checks in with the colleague, who runs it, during 30-minute sessions every month.

Oliver said: “Having someone to bounce off is beneficial. He’s always got someone to bounce off and point him in the right direction if he is struggling for ideas. Karen always has an idea.”

Results

After getting Evolve BD’s help, Ultrasonic Flight Cases’ monthly turnover has quadrupled.

“Since working with Karen, we’ve gone from an average monthly turnover of £5000 to £20,000. So as far as I’m concerned, that’s a result. To increase by that much is fantastic,” said Oliver.

“Karen is very friendly and approachable, and she is always full of ideas, and she’s always got an answer.”

Since this case study has been approved the staff member no longer works for Ultrasonics.
